Around 50 clients and colleagues celebrated the re-launch of Comtec – one of the region’s leading translation and interpreting companies.

MEP Philip Bushill-Mattthews was the guest of honour at the event which was held, appropriately, on Europe Day and he stressed the need for companies to improve their language skills.

“I have always believed passionately that the ability to use other languages is vital for any business looking to trade with international partners, and I believe that is more important now than at any time.

“As one German Chancellor put it – ‘if you want to sell to Germany it is fine to speak English, but if you want to buy from us then reines Deutsch sprechen!’

“I worked in Portugal for two years and know only too well how important it is to be able to speak the language of the country with which you are trading.”

The Leamington-based company has recently been bought back by founder Isabella Moore, together with Sophie Howe and Hazel Stewart and it handed out its first annual language prize which went to Warwickshire College student Kate Pannell.

Kate, who lives at Priors Marston, has studied Russian at the college to help her in her voluntary work with orphanages in Russia.
