State-of-the-art translation for technical operating manual

Comtec Translations has successfully applied state-of-the-art translation memory software to complete the French translation of a technical operating manual for market leading manufacturer and supplier, Geotech.

Geotech manufactures and supplies biogas and landfill gas portable analysers to organisations in over 50 countries. Geotech's UK Sales Manager, Simon Sheridan, said: "Historically, our user-manual translations have been carried out locally by distributors. However, for a new commercial arrangement with Veolia for France, we sought the help of Comtec Translations because of their expertise and technical know-how."

The translation software effectively builds up a database of words and technical terms each time a sentence is translated and develops an extensive memory to ensure consistency in terminology and style across the project. As part of the project, Comtec handled the translation of flowcharts presented as Visio Drawing files. Using the translation technology software, Comtec was able to work with the Visio files to translate and format their content.

Sophie Howe, director of Comtec Translations says: "To fulfill this project for Geotech, we selected a team of translators and proofreaders with the appropriate technical expertise and understanding of the particular terminology. We then provided Geotech with a comprehensive glossary of technical terms for review and sign off by Veolia before proceeding with the translation."
