Stylish Translation Keeps Redcats Fashion-Forward
|
The client
Fashion is at the heart of Redcats, the company behind French catalogue clothing brand La Redoute. So when it came to translating and localising their catalogue content online, they wanted a company that understood their style.
Having translated their print catalogues twice a year for the past few years, Comtec already knew this well and had a database of translated content to draw from, thanks to their use of advanced translation memory software on previous projects. This speeds up the translation of all new content while ensuring consistency throughout.
The task
Speed and consistency was exactly what Redcats needed to translate and localise their French content into English. Comtec achieved this by adopting a methodical approach.
First, they called on their network of translators with specialist knowledge of the clothing sector, choosing an expert team translating into their mother tongue. Next, they agreed with Redcats a glossary of key terms compiled from existing materials that could be used by translators.
Finally, with translation underway aided by their advanced memory software, Comtec was open to feedback on style and content. This ensured that, when the project was finally delivered, it met Redcats’ needs exactly.
Today, Comtec translates all of La Redoute’s online and print catalogue content twice a year (over half a million words per season), alongside expertly formatting its catalogues. They also assist with ongoing translation requirements throughout the year.
Comtec’s in-house translator, Emma Hayesmoore, says this success is down to understanding the business needs of the client, working with expert translators and using advanced translation memory software.
“There can be a high amounts of repetition in these clothing brochures, so using translation memory software saves time and means significant cost benefits to the client.”
